Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club welcomes you to their annual Ventura Outrigger Challenge – where competing teams will battle it out in this 6-man iron race on the open ocean with views of the spectacular Channel Islands. We are honored to celebrate 34 years as part of the Ventura community and grateful for the support we receive from partner agencies, sponsors, local vendors and volunteers.

In partnership with Paso Pacífico, we will be celebrating World Ocean Day Ventura at Harbor Cove Beach all day-long – featuring live music, games, ocean-oriented non-profits and vendors.

Local Regulations

Alcohol is not allowed on the beach or in the parking areas.

Harbor Cove Beach is a dog friendly beach. Keep your dog on leash.

Race Site: Harbor Cove Beach

Take Highway 101 to Ventura
Exit Seaward Avenue
Take Harbor Boulevard toward Ventura Harbor
Right at Spinnaker Drive
Race site will be in the last lot at the end of Spinnaker

Parking

Free street parking is available along Spinnaker Drive (where marked) and two designated lots. Green on the map below denotes available parking areas. Please check for signs.

Lot 1: Race Site Parking
End of Spinnaker Drive (on the ocean side)

Lot 2: Race Overflow Parking
Safe Harbor Ventura Isle’s Dolphin Lot at 1363 Spinnaker Drive

It’s a 10-minute walk to the race site, along the inner-Harbor walkway.
We recommend paddlers with large equipment (like pop-ups) drop off their belongings and fellow paddlers at the race site before parking in the overflow lot.
There is no shuttle.

There is no overnight parking and race event parking is prohibited in Ventura Harbor retail spots. Our ability to retain the race site depends on being good neighbors.

Trailer Unloading

Friday, June 10 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Saturday, June 11 5:30 AM – 8:30 PM

Follow above directions to Harbor Cove Beach.
Continue past the race site parking lot – until Spinnaker Drive ends at the dirt lot.

Safety Boats

Ventura Harbor Launch Ramp

From Harbor Boulevard, turn right onto Schooner Drive.
Schooner Drive will dead-end after one block, turn right on Anchors Way.

Boat launch is immediately on the left off Anchors Way on northeast side of the harbor

Visiting Crew Information

All paddlers, visitors, guest of clubs or support staff must complete a 2023 SCORA Liability Waiver. No exceptions. Sign waiver here

Registration Steps/Login

We have a new site and with that come some changes.

If anyone from your club has participated in a SCORA race in the past, please use your club’s account login and do not create another one and login here.

If new to racing with SCORA register here

Once in your account:

Enter a coach if not already in there. Must enter them as “New”
IF using your own canoes – check borrowed
When it says “select the canoe you will be borrowing”, scroll down to “canoe not listed”, check the box of type, then type the canoe number. No need for color or name.
If borrowing from SCORA – same as #3 but put “unknown” in the canoe number space
Paddler input screen comes up – enter all of your paddlers under “Guest”.
Select a coach
Hit next and you will be sent to the payment screen. Pay in person or online.

Vendors

There will be a selection of retail vendors at the race site. Purchases made will support our club.

Food vendors will be available throughout the day. Please follow Zero Waste practices and bring your own plate/utensils and properly use the green waste, recycle, and trash receptacles. Additional food options are available throughout Ventura Harbor Village and across from the race site at Harbor Cove Cafe.

Ultimate Paddling Raffle + Raffle / Silent Auction

In addition to our traditional onsite home race raffle and silent auction, Hokuloa is stoked to announce the Ultimate Paddling Raffle that features an ARE Tahiti V1 as the Grand Prize. Tickets may be purchased in advance on Zeffy or onsite at the Ventura Outrigger Challenge on June 10, 2023 from 7:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Raffle details and rules can be found here.

Tickets for the Traditional Raffle will be available for purchase onsite in Raffle Tent. Winners for both raffles and the silent auction will be announced at approximately 2:00 PM at the race. Winner(s) of the Ultimate Paddling Raffle are not required to be present, but must arrange to pick up their prize from Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club within a reasonable period of time. Please note that our Traditional Raffle does require individuals to be present to win.
