About SCORA

Purpose

The purpose of " Southern California Ocean Racing Association" SCORA is to promote and improve the racing of ocean going yachts under selected measurement rules sanctioned by U.S. Sailing Association using Velocity Prediction Program (VPP).

SCORA acts as a conduit between the Southern California yacht racers and U.S. Sailing Association to transmit and promote the wishes and goals of local racers to the national authority.

SCORA also acts as an advisory group to yacht clubs sponsoring races.  In this capacity it may advise sponsoring clubs concerning safety equipment, conduct of races and other related matters.

AMERICAP VELOCITY PREDICTION PROGRAM (VPP) is a sophisticated computer program to calculate the potential sailing performance of a yacht under various conditions and course configurations.
